COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The Army’s 10th Infantry Division on Friday, April 24, assumed control of the anti-terror Task Force GenSan covering the entire General Santos City, now among the cities and provinces under its jurisdiction.

Major Gen. Jose Vladimir Cagara, commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, personally turned over the TF GenSan command to his counterpart in the 10th ID, Major Gen. Alvin Luzon, during a symbolic rite on Friday at the Family Country Hotel and Convention Center in Barangay Lagao in General Santos City, one of the four cities in Region 12.

Units of the 6th ID shall continue securing all towns in Region 12’s South Cotabato and Malungon provinces and Koronadal City, all close to General Santos City.

While under the 6th ID, officials of Army units comprising the anti-terror TF GenSan, local executives in General Santos City and South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., who is chairperson of the multi-sector Regional Peace and Order Council 12, together secured, from 2020 to late 2025, the surrender in batches, via backchannel dialogues, of 473 members of the allies Dawlah Islamiya and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the New People’s Army.

Tamayo, now in his third and last term as governor, told reporters on Saturday that, as figurehead of the RPOC 12, he shall support the now 10th ID-led TF GenSan just the way he helped push its peacekeeping activities forward while under the 6th ID.

“We in South Cotabato and in its capital, Koronadal City, are committed to do that,” Tamayo said.

Cagara, who is overseeing three brigades and more than 10 battalions deployed in Region 12 and in the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte and in Cotabato City, all in the Bangsamoro region, said he is certain that the 10th ID, under Luzon's leadership as division commander, will sustain and even expand the community service thrusts of the TF GenSan, a tactical partner of the Police Regional Office 12 in its law-enforcement activities in General Santos City.

Luzon had said, in the presence of reporters who covered the TF GenSan command transition ceremony, that there shall be no disruption of the community service programs of the task force, now under the 10th ID’s direct supervision and control.

“We shall even do our best to intensify it. We shall tap the support of the barangay and city officials in General Santos City to achieve that,” Luzon said.
