MANILA, Philippines — Public school teachers and personnel of the Department of Education will begin receiving their P7,000 clothing and uniform allowance starting next month.
In a memorandum, DepEd Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development and Infrastructure Wilfredo Cabral said the clothing and uniform allowance for fiscal year 2026 would be released not earlier than the first working day of April, subject to the release of funds from the Department of Budget and Management.
The allowance is intended to help employees purchase their prescribed uniforms.
Cabral also announced that DepEd will strictly implement the wearing of the newly prescribed national uniform starting school year 2026-2027 this June.
Cabral added that sublimation-printed uniforms are strictly prohibited.
LGU resource center
Meanwhile, the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) has launched the LGU Resource Center, a one-stop resource designed to help local government units implement education reforms and address the country’s learning crisis.
It provides access to key data, training opportunities and legislative tools that local leaders can use to strengthen and improve education programs within their municipalities.
According to EDCOM 2, the initiative recognizes that the success of the national education system depends largely on the performance of local communities, where reforms are implemented in barangays, child development centers and schools.
Improving schools
Efforts to address the country’s education challenges are also being pursued in Congress, particularly in improving school infrastructure.
The House committee on basic education and culture recently approved a bill establishing the classroom-building acceleration program, which aims to fast-track the construction, repair and upgrading of public school classrooms across the country.
House Speaker Faustino Dy III underscored the importance of supporting teachers and expanding learning facilities as lawmakers push measures to accelerate classroom construction nationwide.
Speaking during the 21st founding anniversary of the Schools Division Office of Cauayan City in Isabela on March 13, Dy said: “Every time I have the opportunity to face our teachers, I always want to thank you because you are the foundation of our society. Our youth are strong because of you.”
The Speaker also emphasized that building the nation’s future is a shared responsibility.
“This is not just the fight of teachers but of everyone. Teachers have the duty, while the people and the parents share the responsibility,” he said.
Under the bill, DepEd will serve as the lead implementing agency and may partner with qualified LGUs and accredited private entities to build, repair or rehabilitate classrooms.
The measure also mandates the creation of a national school congestion mapping system to identify schools facing severe classroom shortages and prioritize the construction of new facilities. — Jose Rodel Clapano
