Earth is in danger from an extraterrestrial threat in the official trailer of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps."

The trailer begins with the public celebrating the Fantastic Four — Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards, Ebon Moss-Bachrac's Ben Grimm, Joseph Quinn's Johnny Storm, and Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm — astronauts who gain superpowers after a flight to space.

It is also revealed that Reed and Sue are expecting a child.

A creature then descends from the sky and asks the heroes if they are the protectors of Earth.

"Your planet is now marked for death," it said.

Reed later confides to Sue that it's his fault because he "stretched the bounds of space and they heard."

Near the end of the trailer, Reed promises the public: "We will protect you."

"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is set in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world.
