MANILA, Philippines — Actor Tom Rodriguez had nothing but pleasant words for his ex-wife Carla Abellana following news of the latter's engagement to a non-showbiz partner.
Tom was put on the spot during the media conference for his upcoming film "UnMarry," an entry to the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), held last December 5 after being asked his reaction to Carla confirming the engagement.
The actor admitted he only learned about the confirmation at the event itself and responded with an honest face.
"I wish her well, I wish them well. I'm glad to know everyone is moving on. We all deserve it. I wish them well," Tom said. "Everyone deserves happiness and we all deserve to move on and I'm glad we're all moving on."
He added that with his relationship with Carla left in the past, the actor is now focused on his family.
Carla and Tom previously tied the knot in 2021 but the marriage ended in a highly publicized separation months after their wedding.

Their divorce, with Tom as an American citizen, was honored by the Philippine court last year. Tom has since welcomed a son with his own non-showbiz partner.
Coincidentally, "UnMarry" revolves around a couple undergoing the dissolution of their marriage through annulment, with Angelica Panganiban (her first film in four years), Zanjoe Marudo, Solenn Heussaff, Eugene Domingo and Shamaine Buencamino also in the cast.
Marriage rumors stirred after Carla posted on social media a photo of her left hand sporting a diamond ring and a man's hand clasping her fingers.
She later confirmed to television host Boy Abunda that her non-showbiz boyfriend indeed popped the question.
Carla also has an entry in the upcoming 2025 MMFF, joining the cast of horror entry "Shake, Rattle, & Roll: Evil Origins." That film and "UnMarry" will hit Philippine cinemas beginning December 25, Christmas Day.
