MANILA, Philippines — San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker sees a bright future in the Victor Wembanyama era, believing the franchise could win it all sooner rather than later.
A four-time NBA champion and former Finals MVP, Parker is confident that Wembanyama and the Spurs can bring glory back to San Antonio after losing to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals last June.
“The potential is amazing. You know, I think it’s just a matter of time before they win the championship,” said Parker on Saturday during the launch of the NBA House at One Ayala in Makati.

The six-time NBA All-Star won championships in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014 with Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili under coach Gregg Popovich.
Parker also had a storied international career with the France national basketball team, where Wembanyama also plays. France settled for silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics after losing to Team USA.
Like what he sees from the Spurs, the legendary point guard also believes Wembanyama can take France to greater heights.

“Same thing. I hope we get a lot of gold medals. I think we have a very, very good team. And now we just have to keep working hard,” he said.
The 44-year-old Parker has been enjoying his time in Manila, holding a basketball clinic for Filipino kids with WNBA legend Lauren Jackson on Saturday. He also coached celebrities against Jason Kidd in an exhibition game.
“I love it.. Every time I can share my experience and spend some time with the kids, I think it’s priceless. And I used to love it when I was that age. I always loved spending time with professional basketball players,” said Parker.

“And I’m happy to be here. You can see the passion, the energy is amazing. And we know, you know, in the Philippines, they love the NBA.”

“Since I arrived the love here is amazing. And so, I love everything.”
Parker also stressed the importance of fundamentals to kids aspiring to become professional basketball players.
“I think that’s the basics, You have to start from there. So, that’s why those camps are very important. Every exercise we did today is the foundation, how you’re going to become a good player, a great player, if you want to go all the way to the NBA,” Parker said.
