The four mistakently continue straight at Candon Bypass Road instead of making a right turn, which the Pangasinan tandem and Guld took advantage of.
They were the seven-man breakaway group that held a gap of four minutes from the peloton that included overall leader Nikita Shulchenko, second-running Ibrahiem Alrefai and third placer Mervin Corpuz.
The peloton eventually chopped at the time difference and completed the race 23 seconds behind the winner.
Among them were Stage 8 victor Ryan Tugawin of Excellent Noodles and riders in the top 10 of the overall tally, including Tugawin’s British teammate Tyler Hannay, MPT Drive Hub’s Nash Lim and 7-Eleven Antoine Huby.
