President Donald Trump claims that there’s great interest (from Microsoft) in TikTok. This was in response when asked about Microsoft’s potential acquisition of the app for US operations.
“We’ll see what happens. We’re going to have a lot of people bidding on it, and if we can save all that and all the jobs, and China won’t be involved, we don’t want China involved, but we’ll see what happens”, he said in his speech in reference to the social media app.
Microsoft has yet to respond to the reports of its involvement in a deal to acquire TikTok. Trump also expressed his enjoyment in the upcoming bidding war for the app, as they ‘lead to the best deals’.
At the time of writing, TikTok has amassed 170 million users in the United States. As mentioned prior, the country’s concern is parent company ByteDance’s connections to China.
ByteDance was previously expected to secure a buyer this month, but was forced to halt operations. Now, the company has 75 days (until April 4th) to complete the sale or face a ban in the country.
Should ByteDance reach an impasse, the only way to avoid the ban is if President Trump delays the Supreme Court’s ruling again.
Communication graduate, closet cynic, and kid at heart. Duane is a rare person to find, quite literally. He often takes to himself but has proven his mettle in tech media with his quick wits. Well, the portfolio of scriptwriting, web content, and public relations help too, we suppose. As a homebody, he often spends his time on the streaming platform Twitch or ‘farming’ gaming clips with friends. He is also an avid fan of round glasses and anything relative to blueberries.
