MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) said it is set to file charges for alleged violations of the National Internal Revenue Code against contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya.
In a message to reporters on Tuesday, January 27, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said the department resolved five tax evasion cases against the couple.
Of the five cases, three were dismissed, while two informations will be filed before the Court of Tax Appeals, Martinez said.
He said the complaints involve alleged violations of Section 254 of the NIRC, or willful attempt to evade or defeat taxes, and Section 255, or willful failure to supply correct and accurate information.
Tax complaints filed by BIR. The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed tax evasion complaints against the Discayas in October 2025.
One complaint, filed on October 8, involved alleged unpaid taxes amounting to P7.18 billion.
Custody and related cases. Sara Discaya is currently detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu. She was arrested on Dec. 18, 2025, along with eight co-accused, over graft and malversation charges linked to a P96.5-million alleged “ghost” flood control project in Davao Occidental.
Curlee Discaya, meanwhile, is under Senate custody.
