UAAP: Benson Bocboc returns as UP women’s volleyball head coach

MANILA, Philippines — Benson Bocboc is back at the helm of the University of the Philippines women’s volleyball team ahead of UAAP Season 89.

The school on Thursday welcomed back Bocboc after Italian coach Fabio Menta retired at the end of Season 88.

Bocboc is returning to the team after leading the Fighting Maroons to a 6-8 record in fifth place two seasons ago.

“Coach Boc proved himself to be a capable coach when he set us up for success in Season 87. We trust that he can do it again, now we’re entering a new era,” said UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.

Bocboc will lead a rebuilding team after the departure of PVL players Joan Monares and Irah Jaboneta and Alas Pilipinas member Niña Ytang. Casiey Dongallo also remains sidelined, recovering from an ACL injury.

“No expectations, no pressure. But one thing’s for sure, UP will fight,” Bocboc said in Filipino.

Kianne Olango, Jelai Gajero, Bienne Bansil, Jaz Manguilomotan and Julia De Leon will be the main gunners of the Fighting Maroons, who will see action in the 2026 Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Unity Cup.

Bocboc is part of Farm Fresh’s coaching staff. He was part of La Salle’s coaching staff from 2016 to 2024 and F2 Logistics in the PVL.
