MANILA, Philippines — La Salle completed a perfect run to the top of the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament after dethroning National University on Saturday.

The Lady Spikers dominated the Lady Bulldogs anew in Game 2, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, to punctuate a 16-0 sweep of the season and end a three-year title drought.

La Salle turned to star Angel Canino and reclaimed the crown since its magical run led by the former Rookie MVP in Season 85.

In the third set, Laput kept NU at bay to give La Salle a 20-13 spread.  Amie Provido nailed a big running attack and drilled an ace to send La Salle to championship point, 24-15, before missing her next serve.

Laput then soared for the kill that clinched the championship.

It was a sweet revenge for the Lady Spikers, who were swept by NU in last year’s Finals during Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon’s last season.

It was Ramil De Jesus 13th overall title for La Salle, completing a 16-0 campaign for the first time — his second perfect season since a 14-game sweep in 2004.

La Salle also slayed the ghost of its Season 76 campaign when it squandered its outright finals entry with a heartbreaking Finals series loss to the Alyssa Valdez-led Ateneo.

Setter Lams Lamina played her final game for the Lady Bulldogs.
