MANILA, Philippines — National University remained the golden standard in the UAAP men’s volleyball, as the Bulldogs extended their reign to a sixth straight season.
The Bulldogs saved the best for last, bringing out the brooms to sweep top seed Far Eastern University, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22, in Season 88 Finals Game 2 on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Leo Ordiales led the closeout, as his fellow Alas Pilipinas stars Buds Buddin, Jade Disquitado, and Peng Taguibolos also made sure to avoid a rubber match and complete their latest title celebration.

The newly-crowned “six-peat” champion kept its status as the king of UAAP volleyball, winning its eighth crown in its 11th straight finals appearance.
The Bulldogs also own the second-longest dynasty in UAAP men’s volleyball, next to FEU’s reign from 1946 to 1958.
Ordiales was firing from all cylinders, nailing the telling blows in the third set for a 22-18 lead. He was named Finals MVP.
Buddin and Disquitado sent NU at championship point, 24-20, before Dryx Saavedra and Buddin’s attack error saved points for FEU.
Obed Mukaba delivered the title-clinching quick attack.

In the first set, Ordiales brought NU to set point with a back row hit, 24-21. But he committed a service and attack error, as Mikko Espartero tied the frame, only for Amet Bituin to miss his serve and Espartero’s final attempt in the set to hit the net that allowed the Bulldogs to escape.
Ordiales and Disquitado put on the finishing touches of the second set for a 2-0 lead.
In Game 1, NU had dug deep to pull off a come-from-behind 21-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8 win over FEU.
The Bulldogs faced challenges in the elimination round with a 10-4 finish and had to take down the University of Santo Tomas in a virtual best-of-three series.

The gold remained elusive for FEU in its second straight time to play NU in the finals despite its best record of 13-1 in the eliminations.
Last year, FEU took Game 1 but NU pulled off the series comeback to become the first team in the Final Four era to complete a ‘five peat’.
