MANILA, Philippines — A senior official handling special concerns in the Department of Information and Communications Technology has been tapped to replace resigned DICT secretary Ivan John Uy.

DICT Undersecretary for special concerns Paul Joseph Mercado has been named officer-in-charge of the agency, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said yesterday.

Mercado will lead the agency until President Marcos appoints a secretary.

Malacañang on March 6 announced that Uy quit his post and the President accepted the resignation.

After his resignation, Uy said he got his life back and his family missed him.

Uy is the third Cabinet official to resign in less than a month.

Former transportation secretary Jaime Bautista and former presidential communications secretary Cesar Chavez resigned from their posts in February.
