Top Gun and Batman Forever actor Val Kilmer has passed away. The Hollywood star died on Tuesday night, April 1, due to pneumonia, The New York Times reports.

The devastating news was confirmed by Val's daughter, Mercedes Kilmer.

The Associated Press also reported that Val Kilmer died in Los Angeles “surrounded by family and friends,” as stated by Mercedes. He was 65.

According to reports, Val has battled different health issues prior to his death, one of which was a throat cancer diagnosis in 2014.

Val later recovered around 2017, and in 2021, he was reported to undergo tracheostomy that permanently damaged his speaking voice.

His former partner, Cher, said in a 2021 report that he was brave the whole time he battled with his condition.

“He was at my house a lot of the time he was sick,” Cher told People in 2021. “He was brave the whole time. I saw how sick he was.”

The American actor also opened up about his health struggles in his 2021 documentary Val. It premiered in the Cannes Film Festival.

“I have behaved poorly. I have behaved bravely. I have behaved bizarrely to some. I deny none of this and have no regrets because I have lost and found parts of myself that I never knew existed,” he said toward the end of the film. “And I am blessed.”

Aside from Top Gun (1986) and Batman Forever (1995), Val starred in the Real Genius (1985), Willow (1988), Heat (1995), and The Saint (1977). Meanwhile, his last film appearance was in the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick.
