MANILA, Philippines —  With the expected surge of sea travelers who will observe All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in the provinces, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) inspected vessels at the port of Batangas on Tuesday to ensure the safety of the riding public.

MARINA officials and personnel checked the validity of the vessels’ documents,  electrical system and life-saving equipment as well as the number of crewmembers and their qualifications and competencies.

MARINA deputy administrator for operations Loumer Bernabe and enforcement service director Luisito delos Santos led the inspection at the port of Batangas, one of the busiest ports in the country.

The officials were accompanied by personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard and coordinated with the Philippine Ports Authority.

Meanwhile, toll operator Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. will implement the Biyaheng Arangkada motorist program starting today until Nov. 3 in anticipation of an increased traffic volume along the expressways.

The program covers all Metro Pacific’s roadways: North Luzon Expressway, SCTEX, NLEX Connector, CAVITEX and CALAX as well as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.

Traffic volume along these expressways is projected to rise by around five percent, with an average increase of 12 percent during peak travel days on Oct. 30 and 31.

Outbound traffic along NLEX and SCTEX is expected to peak from Friday to Saturday afternoon, while return traffic may increase from late afternoon of Nov. 2 to early morning the following day.
