CEBU CITY — The burglar who wore nothing but a black underwear and a face mask when he sneaked into a Korean's home in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, and walked away with a vault over his shoulder, was arrested at the Toledo City port on March 15.

The police identified the suspect as Bryan Cansancio Magnanao, who was nabbed as he attempted to flee to his hometown in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, a week after he broke into the Korean's house and walked out like he owned the place.

The video footage of the daring vault heist went viral this past week.

THE NAKED TRUTH A screen grab of a viral video that captured a man, wearing only a black underwear and a face mask, stealing a vault from a home of a Korean in Cebu. The video was posted by homeowner Victoria Dy and shared by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan on his social media page.

The police, however, said the burglary was not the suspect's first.

The police also linked him to at least two other break-ins, all targeting Korean citizens in high-end subdivisions.

In one case, he allegedly stole P10,000.

Investigators noted his odd habit of breaking in wearing only underwear, a pattern that made him both memorable and, ultimately, easier to track down.

After receiving a tip about his escape plans, police intercepted Magnanao at the Toledo City port.

During questioning, he admitted to stealing the vault but insisted it contained only P50,000, not P2 to P3 million the victim initially reported.

He told authorities he had abandoned the vault in a secluded area in Maribago.

The police also found three sachets of suspected shabu in his possession, leading to additional charges for violating the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Further checks revealed he had an outstanding arrest warrant for drug-related offenses, issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 5 in 2021, with bail set at P200,000.

Adding to his list of troubles, his cousin, Mariel Cansancio Banguiran, who was with him during the arrest, is also facing charges after police confiscated a 9mm pistol with two loaded magazines from her possession.

Authorities, meanwhile, continue to search for the missing vault while preparing formal charges against Magnanao and his cousin.
