MANILA, Philippines — Police have launched an investigation into an altercation over a parking dispute after a man allegedly brandished a firearm while confronting a motorist outside his residence in Mandaluyong.
In a statement yesterday, the city police said probers are identifying the parties involved, reviewing the video that had gone viral and gathering statements of witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the legality of the gun used.
Police said the case is being treated with the “highest level of urgency and concern,” citing public alarm over the alleged display of a firearm at a residential area.
Based on initial information, the confrontation started after a motorist parked a vehicle in front of the suspect’s house.
The suspect allegedly identified himself as a military general during the incident.
Authorities reminded the public that using a gun to threaten or intimidate others is illegal and may result in criminal and administrative charges.
The Mandaluyong police also urged the parties involved and possible witnesses to coordinate with its investigation section to help establish the facts and ensure a fair resolution of the case.
