The government eyes making roads safer for pedestrians and commuters, with Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon saying that the rebuilding program for Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue or EDSA will not just focus on motorists.

Dizon joined road safety and mobility advocates on Monday, May 26, on their community walk along EDSA from Makati to Caloocan. The transport chief joined the group in the first few kilometers of the walk, right before he went to a press conference at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Communications and Command Center in Makati City detailing the plans to rebuild the country’s most congested highway.

“The President has repeatedly said ‘We really have to rebuild EDSA. We can’t just rehab it the way we’ve done it in the past, we have to completely rebuild it,'” Dizon told reporters.

“I think what the President means by that is we have to rebuild it for people, and pedestrians are an important part of the EDSA ecosystem,” he added. – Rappler.com
