MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday, July 15, filed a bill that seeks to penalize children who abandon their sick, elderly, or “incapacitated” parents.

The proposal has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Under the proposed bill, abandonment of a parent in need of support constitutes a “criminal act” and could mean imprisonment of up to 10 years.
