MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a woman who allegedly kidnapped a newborn at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMC) in Marikina on Friday.

The suspect and her boyfriend were nabbed in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig on Monday night.

Marikina police chief Col. Jenny Tecson said the suspects’ arrest ended a manhunt that reached Tondo, Manila and Rizal province.

Police did not disclose the identities of the suspects who are facing complaints for kidnapping and failure to return a minor.

Wearing a scrub suit, police said the woman went to the fourth floor of the ARMMC where the babies and their mothers are staying.

The suspect told the baby’s mother that she had to take the child for a newborn screening.

The mother panicked when the baby was not returned to her.

Prior to the incident, probers said the female suspect had a miscarriage at the Rizal Medical Center in Pasig.

Department of Health Secretary Ted Herbosa ordered chiefs of DOH-run hospitals to enforce heightened security measures.

The DOH also reported an attempted kidnapping of a newborn at the Tondo Medical Center in Manila.
