COTABATO CITY — The Army’s 10th Infantry Division capped off the start on Monday, March 2, of its observance of the International Women’s Month with a symbolic donning of higher rank insignias to its newly-promoted female personnel.

Radio reports on Thursday stated that the commander of 10th ID, Major Gen. Alvin Luzon, personally officiated the symbolic rite on Monday morning at Camp General Manuel Yan Sr. in Barangay Tuboran in Mawab town in Davao de Oro, where their headquarters is located.

For officials of the 10th ID, this year’s theme of the International Women’s Month, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future," is a challenge to women in their units to continue with their peacebuilding activities in far-flung areas in Region 10, 11 and 13 that the division and local government units and the police had liberated from the New People’s Army in recent years through multi-sector peace initiatives that are far from devastating and bloody.

Seven in the group of 10th ID personnel who received rank insignias during Monday’s event at Camp General Manuel Yan were women in the forefront of the division’s peacebuilding activities in areas under its jurisdiction.

Local executives and officials of different peace-advocacy blocs were quoted in radio reports as saying that women in different battalions under the 10th ID were instrumental in securing the surrender, through backchannel dialogues, of 326 female NPA members, or amazons, from hinterland towns across the provinces and cities inside the division's territory.

Luzon said they shall have some other activities related to the 10th ID’s observance of the Women’s Month until March 31.
