MANILA, Philippines — A worker died while a crewmember was trapped when a cargo vessel capsized in Naga, Cebu on Wednesday.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the motor vessel Theresa 1 tilted before it sank while docked at the Apo Cement Port.
PCG-Central Visayas Rear Admiral Agapito Bibat said that workers were loading cement into the Theresa I when the vessel listed and sank.
The vessel’s mooring line snapped and hit a worker, who was declared dead on arrival at the Vicente Mendiola Center for Health Infirmary.
Responding members of the PCG and the city’s disaster risk reduction and management office extracted the crewmember from the engine room.
The PCG installed spill booms as a precaution against an oil spill.
