A golden ticket to the pinnacle of global multisport racing is on the line as the country’s triathlon capital prepares for a historic double header spectacle that would mark a historic 10th staging.

The Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay on June 7 is doing far more than celebrating a decade of endurance excellence as it opens a pathway for Filipino athletes to leap to the World Championship in Nice, France.

Organized by Sunrise Events, Inc., the premier middle distance race of a 1.9 km swim, 90 km. bike and 21 km run has already drawn a stellar international field representing at least 45 countries, with more expected to register before the starting gun fires.

The local spotlight will shine on the passionate community of Filipino age groupers as these hometown endurance athletes have a chance to claim one of 45 coveted qualifying slots for the Worlds set Sept. 12 to 13 in that breathtaking coastal city in France.

To ensure fair opportunity, the slots will be distributed evenly across the male and female age group divisions.

Automatic entries will be awarded to top division finishers, followed by the highly anticipated roll down ceremony—a tension filled tradition where unclaimed slots slide down the rankings, keeping the world championship dream alive for those who finish just within striking distance.

Subic Bay hosts two big events that day, the other being the Ironman Philippines event, a monster race featuring a punishing 3.8 km swim, 180 km. bike and a full 42.2 km. marathon run.
