Only 46% of Filipinos reported they are "very happy" with their love life, according to results of the Fourth Quarter 2024 Social Weather Survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) released Tuesday.
The December 2024 percentage of those with a "very happy" love life is a "record-low," as it's the lowest it's been in two decades.
“The latest percentage of 46% very happy with their love life was 12 points down from 58% in December 2023, and the lowest in 20 years since it was first reached in 2004,” the SWS said.
Meanwhile, 36% of Filipinos reported they could be happier with their love life, whereas 18% said that they have no love life.
Love languages
The survey also showed that the most common love language among adult Filipinos is Acts of Service, with 67% of Filipinos saying this is how they express their love.
Acts of Service include gestures such as cooking meals, running errands, assisting with chores, or fixing things around the house without being asked.
This was followed by Words of Affirmation and Quality Time at 51% each. Meanwhile, 33% of Filipinos chose Giving Gifts, and 29% preferred Physical Touch.
Valentine’s Day gifts
When it comes to men and women's wish list of Valentine’s Day gifts, love and companionship topped the list for both at 19%.
This is a shift from last year’s trend when money was the most cited Valentine’s gift wish.
For men, love and companionship is followed by any gift from the heart (9%), flowers (8%), money (6%), and apparel (6%).
Among women, love and companionship is followed by money (15%), flowers (12%), any gift from the heart (8%), and good family relationship (8%).
The survey was conducted nationwide from December 12-18 through face-to-face interviews of 2,160 Filipino adults (ages 18 years old and above). The sampling error margins are ±2% for national percentages, ±3% in Balance Luzon, and ±5% each for Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
