Success is built on essentials—executed with relentless efficiency.

Justinn Sze: Success is built on essentials—executed with relentless efficiency.

It began simply as a personal passion for fitness and entrepreneurship. This passion has grown into The Bigway Group, a rapidly expanding organization led by 35-year-old Justinn Sze.

At a young age, Sze has pioneered a diverse enterprise that spans the sports and fitness industry to the pharmaceutical industry, driven by a commitment to excellence and industry transformation. The Bigway Group comprises Bigway Sports and Fitness, Buehler Pharma, and up-and-coming expansions focusing on education as well as logistics and cold-chain solutions.

For Sze, success is measured not just by profits, but by a relentless focus on essentials, executed effectively and efficiently—a philosophy that has allowed him to build his group of companies by creating strong identities, seamless processes, and client-focused experiences.

The genesis of Bigway Sports wasn’t a grand corporate strategy, but a personal passion. “Bigway Sports started out as a side hustle, around eight years ago, I was working a different job,” Sze recounts.

Keen on staying active, he noticed a glaring gap in the market for a lack of top-quality fitness equipment. Leveraging his upbringing by visionary entrepreneur parents, who, through their actions, have instilled in him discipline and perseverance, among many important values, Sze was guided into an upright path of potentially building his own empire.

He began with a single, often overlooked item: kettlebells. “It's simple and unassuming, but the kettlebell is a very powerful tool,“ says Sze.

It started with a kettlebell—simple, powerful, game-changing.

Bigway Sports became the first company to market pro-grade kettlebells, uniform in size, regardless of weight. His initial focus was almost singular. ”I was going all in; my thought was that someday, all dumbbells in the gyms would be replaced by kettlebells. That was my mindset,” he admits. Soon after, he expanded into a full line of functional training equipment, including medicine balls, resistance bands, and more, capitalizing on the growing popularity of functional training fitness.

Evolution of excellence

Sze personally drove around, products piled in his car, knocking on gym doors. This hands-on, almost missionary-like approach was fueled by a deep conviction: “I fought hard for it and it felt right. I knew that I had with me a solution.”

Years into this journey, as his network and acumen strengthened, Sze saw his next opportunity: expanding into full fitness center equipment solutions.

“In what I pursue, my aim is to push standards upward, going for what is better than best,” Sze asserts. “And that ambition naturally extended into evolving the company into a fitness and sports consultancy firm, rather than just an equipment vendor,” Sze says.

Currently, the company collaborates with industry-leading, internationally renowned brands, including True Fitness, Octane Fitness, Impulse, Primus Fitness, and others.

Sze attributes Bigway Sports’ success to its people and culture. “Bigway Sports has the best people sitting in the right seats,” Sze notes. “Working with this group in a very energetic environment makes each of us very effective,” he adds. Together with his team, Sze’s personal commitment to perfecting even the smallest details of every experience is a proven recipe for high satisfaction in his growing clientele.

Sze is setting his sights and directing all his efforts into the current expansion of Bigway Sports, aiming to provide optimal solutions for sports surfaces. “We're starting to get into construction of sports surfaces for sports centers”, he reveals. His grandest dream is for the Philippines to have public, and state-of-the-art multi-sports facilities.

Beyond sports and fitness: New frontiers

His philosophy isn’t confined to sports and fitness. In January of this year, Sze fully acquired Buehler Pharma and Medical Trading Corp., a healthcare company specializing in pharmaceutical and hospital products and services.

Applying his “essential, effective, and efficient” mindset, and together with his talented team, he quickly steered the company in a direction that allows them to work with top-tier hospitals all over the Philippines.

In an industry that is foreign to him, his approach is disarmingly simple: “I always set a goal,  and that starts my quest to find the most efficient way to achieve it. I have yet to learn many things as I lead this organization, but I make sure that a lot of careful calculation is put into every decision that I make”. S

Surprised by the unique quirks and intricacies of the pharmaceutical industry compared to Bigway Sports, he is excited to push the company forward and upwards.

His next frontier: logistics and cold-chain solutions, where he serves as President and CEO. This marks his third PCEO role, and second this year.

When asked about his fears in engaging in new ventures and taking on new roles, Sze's answer is clear: “When I take on new roles, I work very hard on necessary due diligence. If I feel that the opportunities that are present to me are aligned with my skill sets and interests, I run the company with full confidence, energy and enthusiasm, without being governed by fear.”

For him, the excitement of each step of his entrepreneurial journey lies in the new experiences he will acquire.

What may be unique about Sze’s entrepreneurial beliefs is that he believes that profits are not the end-all of every enterprise.

“Profits, although an important indicator of the health of our companies, must be looked at as a mere byproduct of the quality work that we do. Our core focus is in excellence, and not in profits. Do well, and healthy profits should follow.” He believes that focusing solely on profits compromises quality, stunts innovation, and adds unnecessary pressure to people involved.

Empathy, respect, and flow

He champions empathy and respect. “It’s never a one-person show, not in entrepreneurship, and I believe, never in life. Empathy is a trait that is hard to learn and a trait that you’d likely only learn by being with others. It’s never only about yourself; what others may feel about certain situations has equal value as your personal views on it. This is crucial not only in the realm of business but also in how we live our lives. Respecting and being able to empathize with every stakeholder involved in each situation allows you to stay true and approach each situation as correctly as possible.”

Flow is important to Sze. As the world moves forward, he emphasizes the need to apply just the right amount of pressure necessary to push it upwards. “A constant, sustainable push for growth is necessary to the fulfillment we find in things that we do. By being comfortable with being uncomfortable and by pushing for and discovering what is still uncharted to us, it is crucial in our quest to move forward. Yes, the universe moves forward, but it is upon ourselves to push it upwards. Upwards being a better, content, peaceful, and meaningful way of living.”

As his young entrepreneurial journey continues, he braces not only for the opportunities and challenges that will come his way but most especially for the learnings and experiences that he will encounter. Justinn Sze’s entrepreneurial vision and philosophy position him as a defining business leader of the new generation.
