MANILA, Philippines (Updated 10:47 p.m.) — In a surprising turn of events, Akbayan is leading the party-list race based on partial, unofficial results from transparency servers as of 10:15 p.m. on Monday, May 12.

Akbayan has so far garnered around 2.62 million votes, a sharp contrast to pre-election surveys where it failed to break into the top 10 party-list groups.

In WR Numero’s last non-commissioned survey from April, Akbayan ranked 21st, with just 1.3% of respondents indicating support.

Their performance was even weaker in Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations' polls, where they garnered only about 0.5% — a figure statistically unlikely to secure a seat.

Here is the current ranking as of 10:15 p.m.:

  • Akbayan - 2,621,208
  • Duterte Youth - 2,128,121
  • Tingog - 1,575,062
  • 4Ps - 1,285,294
  • ACT-CIS - 1,143,161
  • AKO BICOL - 980,252
  • Solid North Party - 718,605
  • Uswag Ilonggo - 718,603
  • TRABAHO - 586,441
  • Cibac - 557,072
  • Senior Citizens - 533,178
  • PPP - 532,199

Among the party-list groups likely to win, according to partial and unofficial results that align with pre-election surveys, are Duterte Youth, fueled by recent issues surrounding the Duterte family, as well as 4Ps, ACT-CIS, and Senior Citizens..

Party-list groups need to reach at least 2% of votes cast to secure at least one seat. Those leading have higher chances of filling up a maximum of three seats each in the 20th Congress.

However, it is still possible for party-lists to have at least one seat despite falling below the 2% threshold.

As of 10:14 p.m., the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received 71.40% of election returns or 51,936,862 out of 69,773,653 registered voters.
