Amiel Sol records for the Ivory label. He is a guitar-toting singer/songwriter who has a degree in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines. That may be impressive but he seems happier to be the newest addition to the roster of local hitmakers. His song Sa Bawa’t Sandali has made it to the Top 10 of the Spotify daily chart.

At last, a new name in the hit list. Now, I am always happy to see the names of Dionela, Arthur Nery, Cup of Joe, Nobita and that oh-so-durable Up Dharma Down in the charts. Hey, we are now doing better than K-pop out here. People are loving original Pilipino music again.
Still, I do long to see new Pinoy acts entering the top rungs in the local charts. I want new names who we can watch ascend the list. I want to find out if they will stay up there like Nery or fade away after a few hits like Hev Abi or even BINI.
Unfortunately, though there have not been a lot of exciting newcomers lately and so all I see are the same titles and the same names week after week after week. Tadhana has been there for several years. So I say, finding a new one is cause for celebration. This is Amiel Sol.
Amiel records for the Ivory label. He is a guitar-toting singer/ songwriter who has a degree in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines. That may be impressive but he seems happier to be the newest addition to the roster of local hitmakers. His song Sa Bawa’t Sandali has made it to the Top 10 of the Spotify daily chart.
Amiel has already released several singles like Ikaw Lang ang Patutunguhan, Di Na Akin, You Make It Right, Paglayag, How to Love Mr. Heartless, Fading Away, Soup and others.
Sa Bawa’t Sandali, however, is his first one to join the star-studded line-up of the hit chart. Helping the single in its journey to the top is its inclusion in the soundtrack of the Viva One series, “Mutya ng Section E.”
I am also happy to note that Amiel’s soft crooning has brought back the modern harana style. Remember that a few years ago, this was the fave sound of streamers and viewers on line.
Think Nery, Zack Tabudlo, Ace Banzuelo, Adie, Matthaios and others, who were serenading lady loves with their laid-back romantic ballads.
The sound later gave way to the bands like Nobita, Lola Amour, Sunkissed Lola and Dilaw, among others, and hip-hop acts like Hev Abi.
But it looks like Amiel, who was born on Valentine’s Day, that is right, Feb. 14, has opened the door for its return. Swoons are all over the place for his declaration of “Ikaw lang/ ikaw ang aking pahinga…Kapag magulo na ang mundo/ ikaw ang payapang hinahanap-hanap ko.” Haaaay!
Time now to look forward to more of the same in the coming weeks.
And now, here is the latest, as of this writing, daily hit list from Spotify where Amiel Sol is in the magical number 10.
