BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Benjamin Magalong has reiterated his appeal to residents and visitors to observe proper waste disposal at all times in the Summer Capital.
Magalong pointed out that improper disposal of trash could lead to flooding and other environmental hazards. He said that waste materials may end up clogging in the drainage system and cause flooding in the city.
"May we again remind residents and tourists to dispose of trash responsibly by using designated bins and avoiding littering in streets, gutters and waterways. Additionally, ensuring that waste is properly bagged and securely tied helps prevent debris from entering the drainage systems," said Magalong.
"By working together to maintain clean and clear drainage systems, we can mitigate the risk of flooding that endangers lives and properties and further protecting our environment," he added.
Recently, the mayor received a complaint on the status of the steel screens installed at the drainage inlets at the boundary of each of the barangay surrounding the City Camp basin.

A resident of Barangay Lower Rock Quarry where a screen is being installed complained that pieces of garbage piled up at the screen cover, causing inconvenience to residents.
The City Engineering Office, headed by acting city engineer Richard Lardizabal, immediately coordinated with the contractor of the project to assist barangay officials in the cleaning and removal of the waste.
Upon turnover of the project, the barangay and residents will take charge of its maintenance.
"The project is under the Barangay Priority Projects funded through the Local Development Fund as identified by the barangay. It was previously resolved that the barangay and its constituents would be responsible for cleaning the screens, with designated barangay personnel and residents assigned to clean within their respective jurisdictions," Lardizabal said.
