MANILA, Philippines — Korean singer Jin of the boy band BTS donated 100 million won (over P4 million) for a charitable cause in celebration of his 33rd birthday.

According to the Namkwang Social Welfare Society located in Busan, Jin donated the money last December 1 (three days before his birthday) to support underprivileged members of the local community.

The donated funds will be utilized for the society's child and youth welfare programs, specifically talent-support scholarship programs for underprivileged youth and a "Self-Reliant/Independent Youth" support program for those aging out of childcare institutions.

The oldest member of BTS' philantrophic act coincides with the Namkwang Social Welfare Society's 80th anniversary.

"We deeply appreciate Jin's meaningful contribution to our social welfare projects on the organization's 80th anniversary," said the organization in a statement. "This support will greatly empower children and adolescents in Busan to pursue their dreams and build a foundation for independence, while planting seeds of hope for isolated neighbors."

Last September, Jin's fellow BTS member RM, the group's leader, donated the same amount to two major hospitals in Korea for his 31st birthday.

Seoul Asan Medical Center is using RM's donation to help cover treatment and surgery costs for patients who are financially vulnerable or disadvantaged, while Korea University Medical Center is improving its clinical environment and expanding its medical service offerings.

Jin was the first member of BTS to enlist and be discharged from Korea's mandatory military service, with RM and company following suit during a time BTS was on hiatus.

RM was discharged last June alongside fellow BTS member V. They were soon followed by the remaining members Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga. J-hope was the second member discharged after Jin.

BTS is currently working on a new album and their comeback is officially dated for March 2026.
