Who’s the new Maxie Oh? Check out the cast in this local musical, a bold follow-up to the award-winning queer, coming-of-age film, ‘Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros’
MANILA, Philippines – A fresh talent from Naga City is stepping into the heels of Maxie in the local drag musical Dalaga na si Maxie Oliveros, premiering this June.
Jamila Rivera, a drag artist and college student who journeyed all the way from Naga City, Camarines Sur just to audition for the musical, clinched the iconic and beloved character of Maxie Oh.
In celebration of Pride Month, the show will run from June 13 to 22 at Illumination Studio in Makati City.
Maxie’s character was first introduced in the 2005 award-winning queer, coming-of-age film, Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, and later brought on stage in the 2013 theater hit Maxie The Musical.
As a bold continuation, Dalaga na si Maxie Oliveros is set five years later, inviting both longtime fans and newcomers into Maxie’s world as she fiercely reclaims her story.
Also in the cast are top drag performers Zymba Ding, Corazon, MRS TAN, and Winter Sheason Nicole, as well as actors Jem Manicad, Gerhard Krystoppher, and Gabriel Villaruel.
Ado Villanueva, Air Paz, Gerald Magallanes, Honey Bravo, Jay Cortez, Marit Samson, Misha Fabian, and Robert Macaraeg round out the powerhouse ensemble.
This production is directed by Melvin Lee, written by Julia Icawat Enriquez and Mikaundre Gozum Santos, with musical direction, arrangement, and additional original songs by JJ Pimpinio.
Produced in collaboration with the original filmmakers and PETA Plus, the drag musical also aims to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices and offer a safe space to challenge societal norms and promote radical love.
Tickets, priced at 2,500, are available via Ticket2Me.
