More than 600,000 families are expected to benefit from the one-month moratorium on the monthly amortization on housing loans as part of the government’s program to ease their burden amid the adverse effects of the series of weather disturbances that hit the country in the past days.
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said 500,000 households from the National Housing Authority (NHA) will benefit from the one month moratorium to be imposed this August while 34,622 families will also be given one-month payment moratorium under the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC).
He said more than 148,000 families whose homes and livelihoods were severely impacted by the recent typhoons and the intensified southwest monsoon (habagat) will benefit from the moratorium from the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC).
“The moratoriums imposed by NHA, SHFC and NHMFC are automatic, hence, member-beneficiaries need not apply to avail. The uncollected payments will only be added up at the end of their payment terms,” said Aliling.
"This shows the unity of DHSUD and its attached agencies in extending assistance to victims of recent weather disturbances. This is our simple but compassionate way of helping our kababayan ease their financial burdens during these difficult times," he added.

Apart from the payment moratoriums, DHSUD is now preparing to deliver post disaster assistance through its Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP) in close coordination with local government units.
