MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is amenable to the suggestion of disqualifying candidates who leave behind their junk, particularly campaign materials, once election season wraps up.
“I think we should do that. Even though the candidate lost, if they did not follow, it will be a cause for disqualification if they ever run for office again,” MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said in an interview over radio dzBB yesterday.
The MMDA has removed 11.18 tons of campaign materials such as posters and tarpaulins two days after the election.
Discarded tarpaulins could be transformed into eco-bags to be made through upcycling programs by the agency’s partners such as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Ecowaste Coalition and Tahanang Walang Hagdan.
They could also be grilled to be used as fillers for eco-friendly bricks and hollow blocks to be created by machinery in the MMDA’s solid waste management facilities, Artes said.
Data privacy
Meanwhile, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) has launched an investigation into the reported posting of Posted Computerized Voters’ Lists (PCVLs) in some polling centers during the elections on Monday that displayed voters’ personal data.
The NPC also issued an appeal for people not to post photos they took of the posted PCVLs especially on social media to avoid further breach of people’s personal data privacy. – Rainier Allan Ronda
