MANILA, Philippines — The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Wednesday, May 14, commenced its first round of interviews for the position of associate justice of the Supreme Court. 

The interview will be for the position to be vacated by Associate Justice Mario Lopez as he reaches compulsory retirement on June 4, 2025. 

The JBC interviewed Court of Appeals Justices Nina Antonio-Valenzuela and Ramon Bato Jr., along with University of the Philippines College of Law Dean Darlene Marie Berberabe.

Also interviewed are Maria Rosario Bernardo and Carlito Calpatura. 

Among the panel of interviewers include Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who is a member of the JBC in an ex-officio capacity, being the secretary of the Department of Justice. 

Other interviewers include JBC members Nesauro Firme, Jose Mendoza and Erlinda Uy. 

The next round of interviews will be conducted on May 15, 16 and 21.
