MANILA, Philippines — Ji Chang-wook is endearing himself even more to Filipino fans after he drew warm comparisons between his culture and theirs.

The Korean star will appear in the upcoming food variety show "Kumusta" alongside Jodi Sta. Maria, Janella Salvador, Francine Diaz, Arci Muñoz and Chef JP Anglo.

The show sees the Filipino actresses led by Chef JP cook Filipino food for Koreans through a restaurant also called "Kumusta." When things begin to pile up, Chang-wook pops in to help — and even brings some friends along.

Chang-wook was back in the Philippines last weekend with his co-stars to promote the show's premiere this May at a media conference.

The actor said, with the help of a translator, that he was interested in the concept of introducing Filipino cuisine to Koreans and thought he'd be a good addition to the program.

Janella accompanies Chef JP inside the kitchen while Jodi and Francine wait to serve the tables. Arci and Chang-wook do the latter as late additions to the team.

"We have Chef JP and all of us, we have dreams and love," Chang-wook said in Korean. "'Kumusta' is a human-oriented program in one of the funniest restaurants ever."

Chang-wook quipped that he offered to serve instead of being in the kitchen because he was not good at cooking and he would have only troubled the others.

"I just supported and followed our boss, Chef JP," the actor added, praising the chef best known for the Michelin-recognized Sarsa in Makati.

In comparing Filipino and Korean cultures, Chang-wook pointed out they were all humans enjoying food no matter where they came from.

He did add that the connections and attachments he felt working in the Filipino restaurant were similar to the kinds he'd experience in Korean ones.

Chang-wook ended by reiterating what a really happy experience he had participating in "Kumusta," which he described as a "heartwarming and healing" program, and thanked the team for tagging him along.

"Kumusta" premieres on Viu app in the Philippines this May 24.
