MANILA, Philippines – Desperate Filipino commuters have previously tried to have themselves “delivered” home by using Lalamove. Now, the app is officially making ride-hailing services available.
In a statement on Monday, February 10, Lalamove said it is looking to get about 15,000 drivers on its platform by June, although commuters can already book a Lalamove Ride home. The company claims they offer cheaper fares when compared with other ride-hailing platforms.
“Right now, our goal is to have a large pool of partner drivers to serve more passengers in the Philippines, starting with the Greater Manila Area, Pampanga, and Cebu this February,” Lalamove Philippines Managing Director Djon Nacario said.
“To make it more rewarding for partner drivers, we’re starting with a 2% commission rate, so they get to take home 98% of their earnings on top of Panalomove partner driver benefits,” he added.
On Lalamove Ride — which can be accessed on the same app — passengers can track the location of their drivers and chat with them to coordinate. It also features an SOS emergency button in case of emergencies.
Lalamove said it driver and passenger accident insurance will be covered by Chubb.
Despite having “a lot of competition” right now, Lalamove noted the demand for ride-hailing services and even cited how users would previously try to use their delivery app as a means to get home
Giving partner drivers options
Registered Lalamove partner drivers have the option of taking both delivery orders and ride bookings.
“They can maximize their earnings through ride bookings during peak hours, and take delivery orders during non-peak hours. And like with delivery, our partner drivers have the liberty to choose the orders they want, aligned with our goal of democratizing on-demand delivery, and this time, even ride-hailing,” Nacario said.
According to Lalamove, they will be strict with onboarding partner drivers.
Applicants need to provide the following documents:
- Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) or Provisional Authority from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board
- Professional driver’s license
- NBI/Barangay/Police clearance
- Passenger accident insurance
- Vehicle photos
Meanwhile, those who got their car secondhand are required to present a Deed of Sale. If drivers will be borrowing a car, they need a Letter of Authorization from the vehicle owner. – Rappler.com
