Filipino fashion designer Mak Tumang, best known for crafting Catriona Gray's winning lava gown in Miss Universe 2018, did his magic yet again in designing CJ Opiaza's ensemble for Miss Grand International 2024's crowning moment.
On Instagram, the Pampanga-based designer said he finished CJ's green and gold gown in just three days.
As seen in his photos, more or less 10 people assisted him in sewing the beads and other details for the silhouette in his studio.
On Instagram Stories, he also shared his conversation with CJ, who asked him to dress her for the crowning event instead of wearing Thai creations.
“Hi Sir Mak, magka-crowning po ako sa Thailand, baka gusto niyo po kayo mag damit sa akin kung may available, than you po,” CJ told Mak.
“Gusto ko po sana Mak ako, [ang dami] kasi ino-offer na Thailand gown,” she added.
To this, Mak replied, saying he would do his magic. Their conversation began on May 29, and by June 1, the gown was on the way to CJ.
CJ was officially crowned as Miss Grand International 2024 while wearing Mak's creation in Thailand on Tuesday. She was crowned by MGI founder Nawat Itsaragrisil.
CJ made history as the first Filipina beauty queen to receive the golden crown.
She took over the title after India's Rachel Gupta resigned and relinquished her crown.
CJ will have a grand homecoming event in the Philippines on June 8.
