MANILA, Philippines — The Rotary Club of Manila (RCM), together with the Department of Labor and Employment and the People Management Association of the Philippines, honored exceptional Filipino workers for their contributions to productivity and innovation at the 2025 TOWER (The Outstanding Workers of the Republic) Awards held last May 1.

This year’s honorees in the individual category were Eddie Alagaban of Energy Development Corporation and Shirley Gonzales of Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing, lauded for modifying risers at the Palayan Power Plant and enhancing production efficiency through the development of a customized fuse guide holder, respectively.

In the team category, two groups from Franklin Baker were recognized: Elsworth Gempesaw and Krish Syrus Micabalo of the Emerald Plant for their project “Muling Ibalik ang Dapat Ibalik,” which restored key operations; and Michael Dasalla, Mark Felnor Butaya and Ronald Quiñones for their sustainable waste management initiative, “Waste Isn’t Waste Until We Waste It.”

The TOWER Awards were launched in 1978 under the leadership of then RCM president Alberto Romulo, in celebration of the club’s diamond anniversary, with then first lady Imelda Marcos as guest of honor and speaker.

The award honors the nation’s most outstanding non-supervisory blue-collar and white-collar workers, recognizing the “contribution of workers to economic development while uplifting Filipino workers’ morale, enhancing individual career opportunities and promoting industrial peace.”

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma led this year’s ceremony, with each awardee receiving P100,000 in cash.

Founded in 1919, the Rotary Club of Manila is the first Rotary Club in both the Philippines and Asia. It is part of Rotary International, a global organization established in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago, dedicated to professional service and fellowship.
