Alyssa Solomon’s PVL entry isn’t cast in stone yet, but she’s vowed to give everything of her skills that have been sharpened by experience in the Japan pro league—no matter which team acquires her from the coming Rookie Draft.
Solomon politely declined to answer questions regarding other overseas offers as instructed by her handlers who previously told Inquirer that their client is still not closing doors to another stint outside the Philippines despite joining the draft and attending the Draft Combine on Thursday at GameVille Ball Park.
But the former UAAP Finals MVP from National University was honored to be part of the 42 aspirants in the 2026 Draft Class.
And if her PVL journey pushes through, Solomon vows to be all-in to the team that will draft her on June 3 at Novotel.
“Honestly, winning feels even more fulfilling when you’re in that kind of situation (rebuilding) because you know the whole team really worked hard for it,” Solomon said in Filipino, discussing the possibility that she will be tabbed first overall by lowly Galeries Towers. “That’s why I’m excited for that possibility too, if ever it happens.
“I’ll just give everything (including the things) I learned (in) Japan, and hopefully help the team however I can while also enjoying the experience.”
Even before she submitted her documents to the PVL Draft, Solomon was seen training with Galeries Tower, which won the lottery over three teams for the first overall pick on Monday night.
The 6 foot 1 Alas Pilipinas player, who reached the SV.League finals with Osaka Marvelous, had a fun time training with the Highrisers under coach Kim Bejo and veteran opposite spiker Aiza Maizo-Pontillas.
But she isn’t setting any expectations yet, with the aspirants given until June 1 to withdraw.
“Honestly, I still don’t have any expectations,” said Solomon. “I talked with coach Kim earlier, and we mostly discussed the plans they’re seeing for the team. We also talked a bit about NU since he’s connected there, too. That was basically our conversation.
“I was really happy to train with her (Aiza),” Solomon went on. “We don’t usually get to interact that much because we often rotate and don’t stay on the same court together, but I was still very happy to share the team environment with her.”
Also attending the combine are UAAP stars Lams Lamina, Detdet Pepito, Niña Ytang, Tin Ubaldo, Filipino-American Jade Fuentes, Khy Cepada, Irah Jaboneta, Joan Monares, Jonna Perdido and Xyza Gula.
