Rita Daniela is making a grand return to the theater stage in the musical "Liwanag Sa Dilim," a role she described as both challenging and rewarding.

As she embraces a complex character that requires a lot of emotional and physical preparation, Rita opens up about the reason behind her return to theater and how motherhood has reshaped her perspective on life.

A role unlike any other

For Rita, the role she plays in Liwanag Sa Dilim isn't just another character—it's a challenge.

"It's a very, very challenging role. When you watch this musical, you'll understand just how much preparation I've put into it," she said.

But what makes this role especially difficult for Rita is the weight of expectation. She acknowledges that audiences will inevitably compare her performance to others who have originated the character. Still, she stood firm and said, "It's tough, but it's worth it."

As someone who has previously taken on intense roles, including a character in Widow's War who battles schizophrenia, Rita says her experience in theater requires a completely different level of commitment.

“Since nga this is theater, walang take-two dito. Lahat puso lang, at siya nga utak."

Motherhood: A new inspiration

When asked about her biggest source of inspiration, Rita proudly answered, "It really is my son."

Acknowledging that being a single mom is no easy feat, aside from the fact that she is also balancing the demands of teleserye roles, Rita decided to return to the theater not just for her career but to spend more time with her son, Uno.

"Once we start doing shows, my weekdays will be pre-recorded, and I wanted to have more time with him," Rita said.

She emphasized that, no matter how busy she gets, she wants Uno to feel her presence and be actively involved in his life.

"I promised myself that, even if I'm super busy, I'll always make sure he knows I'm here," Rita added. "I'll be hands-on with him."

Rita further shared that there are times when she has to bring Uno along to rehearsals when there's no one else to watch him.

"Things happen, and sometimes I have no choice but to bring him with me. Luckily, everyone is really understanding, and Uno plays around while I work."

Throughout her journey, Rita has found a powerful source of inspiration—her son. She proudly refers to him as her own "liwanag sa dilim."

Meanwhile, Rita isn't just returning to theater—she's also making waves in the music scene. Her upcoming album, "To All The Boys," marks a new chapter in her musical career.

"Every song has a story. It's not just about releasing an album; it's about sharing my journey, especially my love life, with my supporters."

"I've been in the industry for almost 20 years, and there are a lot of people who don't know about me. Through this album, I hope they'll understand me better," she added, noting that she's particularly excited about her songs' emotional depth and connection with her audience.

As Rita prepares to take the stage in Liwanag Sa Dilim, she encourages everyone to come and watch the musical, calling it a show with a lot to offer.

"You'll be shocked. The music is incredible, and the arrangements will blow you away," she added.

Rita Daniela will be joined by fellow Kapuso stars Khalil Ramos and Anthony Rosaldo and other cast members, including promising actors such as CJ Navato, Nicole Omillo, Alexa Ilacad, and Vien King.

Also part of the cast is Noemi Gonzales, Arnel Carrion, Boo Gabunada, Jon Abella, Raul Montesa, Rica Laguardia, Lani Ligot, Jasper Jimenez, Mark Tayag, Derrick Gozos, Chez Cuenca, Paji Arceo, Iya Villanueva, Lucylle Tan, Denzel Chang and Brianna Bunagan.
