MANILA, Philippines — Incumbent Sen. Nancy Binay tops the mayoral race in Makati City, currently beating her brother-in-law, Luis Campos, based on the initial tally of media transparency servers.
Nancy, who has served two consecutive terms in Congress since 2013, is set to succeed her sister Abby as mayor. Abby, the incumbent, is currently running for senator. However, the Binay siblings remain estranged due to a longstanding family rift intensified by their political rivalry.
In a media interview, she admitted feeling nervous about the results. "May nerbyos [ako] kasi alam ko ‘yung standard na kailangan kong sundan, ‘yung serbisyo na kailangan kong gawin ay napakataas, dahil ganun ‘yung standard na sinet ng aking ama," she said.
(I feel nervous because I know the standard I have to live up to the level of service I need to deliver is very high, because that’s the standard my father set.)
As of 2:11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, around 91,392 registered Makati voters chose Nancy over Mayor Abby’s husband in the city’s mayoral race. Around 78.33% of election returns have been processed.
According to 2025 election data, Makati has 270,240 registered voters. Considering Nancy’s numbers, the votes she earned translate to a third (33.8%) of the expected voters in the city.
Campos, on the other hand, garnered 68,005 votes. The two other contenders, independent candidates Victor Neri and Orlando Solidum, received less than 2,000 votes each.
Vice mayoralty. While Nancy leads the mayoral race, her running mate, Monsour Del Rosari, is far behind in the vice mayoral race with 42,714 votes. Kid Peña, Campos’ running mate, leads with 117,175 votes — nearly triple Del Rosario’s current votes.
Del Rosario also previously served as Makati’s first district representative and city councilor, while Peña is an incumbent representative of the first district.

Peña has long worked with the Binay family, previously serving as vice mayor under Abby and Nancy’s brother, Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr., who led Makati City from 2010 to 2015.
The incumbent representative later became acting mayor for a year after Junjun was suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman over corruption allegations.
One family. Makati City has largely been under the Binay family's leadership since 1995, beginning with the work of former Vice President Jejomar Binay, followed by his children Nancy, Abby and Junjun. Jejomar Binay also served under the late President Noynoy Aquino’s administration.
His wife, Elenita Binay, was also elected mayor in 1998.
The Binay family is also aiming to retain influence at the national level, with Abby running under the administration-aligned Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas. However, she currently ranks 15th with 9.4 million votes — just outside the winning circle.
As of 2:00 a.m., the Commission on Elections has received 97.65% of local election returns, with 2,609 still to be transmitted. Overseas returns stand at 83.05%, with 41 remaining to be processed.
