MANILA, Philippines—Scottie Thompson won his third PBA Finals MVP award after helping Barangay Ginebra defeat TNT in Game 7 of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

Thompson took home the Ramon Fernandez Finals MVP honors after averaging 10 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.3 steals in the series before helping the Gin Kings secure an 88-76 victory over the Tropang 5G in the winner-take-all game.

The Gilas Pilipinas guard told the Inquirer that this latest Finals MVP was the sweetest of his career, not only because it was the hardest to win but also because he got to share the moment with his children.

“This is the most unhealthy situation for me in these Finals and battling through pain so I was quite emotional when I heard my name called,” said Thompson.

“I’m truly blessed and honored to get this award in front of my kids. That’s the best moment. Last time I won, they weren’t there but this time, I have kids and they saw me win one.”

The last time Thompson won the Finals MVP award was in 2021, when Ginebra defeated Meralco in the Governors’ Cup Finals.

In the decider against TNT, Thompson bounced back from a lackluster Game 6 with a near triple-double of 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

He did all that despite suffering a cut near his eye just 56 seconds into the contest.
