Taeyeon's 10th anniversary concert in Manila was more than just a celebration—it was a full-circle journey through the past, present, and future of her career as a solo artist.
True to its name, "The TENSE in Manila" encapsulated every emotion, every era, and every defining moment of her decade-long artistry. As a fan who has followed her since her Girls' Generation days, I couldn't be prouder of everything she has achieved.
Pink hearts and glowing light sticks filled the Mall of Asia Arena—a powerful reminder to Taeyeon that her music career continues to shine, even beyond the Girls' Generation's global success.
This was her third solo concert in Manila, and for us Filo-SONEs, it was a major venue upgrade—sumakses indeed! She first graced our shores with "S Concert" in 2018 at the New Frontier Theater, which became PULP's fastest sold-out concert in history. She then returned with "The ODD of Love in Manila" at the Araneta Coliseum and now, she has taken over the grand stage of MOA Arena!
Taeyeon's Past: Beyond Girls' Generation
Before stepping into her solo career, Taeyeon was best known for as the leader of the Nation's Girl Group—Girls' Generation. Her distinct vocals were what made her my bias from the start. And when she opened the concert with "Fabulous," she set the tone for what was truly going to be a fabulous night for her fans. She then followed it up by her debut single, "I," a song that took us to the beginning of her journey as a solo artist. I couldn't help but get teary-eyed listening to it live.
SONEs (Girls' Generation's fan base) sang their hearts out to the songs that first introduced us to her signature sound—"Time Lapse," "Curtain Call," and "Make Me Love You"—alongside other hits spanning her entire discography.
Taeyeon's Present: A 'Fabulous' Journey
For the past 10 years, Taeyeon has continued to capture the hearts and minds of her fans. Not even the COVID-19 pandemic could slow her down—she kept delivering iconic, award-winning songs like "INVU" and "Four Seasons." Hearing them live at the arena sent chills down my spine!
The energy skyrocketed as she performed her upbeat hits like "Why," "Stress," and "Baram X." During these tracks, we fans joined a special project, waving pink fabrics in sync with our glowing light sticks, creating a breathtaking ocean of pink.
But beyond the high-energy moments, Taeyeon also reminded us why she's the queen of ballads. She poured her soul into emotional masterpieces like "Time Lapse" and "My Tragedy," before seamlessly transitioning into her newly released songs "Blur" and "Disaster"—both of which resonated deeply in our hearts.
Taeyeon's Future: Un-'Ending Credits'
We all know that when the ending credits roll in a movie, it signals the end. But "Ending Credits" by Taeyeon tells a different story—it felt like a love letter and a promise to her fans that this journey will never truly end.
As she wrapped up the concert with "U R," fans couldn't hold back their tears, knowing it was the final song of the night. But hearing "U R" live was a reassurance—it was her way of telling us that no matter what, she will always come back for us.
While her 10th-anniversary concert didn't tease a comeback, we know for sure that Taeyeon will return with more iconic songs that will continue to inspire us.
Fingers crossed! Here's hoping she keeps coming back to the Philippines.
Forever in all tenses? 'Til next time, our beshie, Taeyeon!
