QUEEN. Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri celebrates her crowning moment in the Miss World 2025.
MISS WORLD
This beauty from Phuket is the first Thailand representative to be crowned Miss World
MANILA, Philippines – Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand bagged the Miss World 2025 crown during the 72nd edition of the pageant finale held in Telangana, India, on Saturday, May 31.
Opal won against 107 other candidates to become the first representative from Thailand to win the title in the world’s oldest pageant.
Although she wasn’t tipped a frontrunner, Opal impressed on coronation night and succeeded Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic.
Meet Opal
A 21-year-old beauty queen hailing from Phuket, Thailand, Opal is a model who’s fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese.
She completed her upper secondary education at Triam Udom Suksa School, focusing on Chinese language studies under the Arts program. Currently, she’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, majoring in International Relations, at Thammasat University.
Opal’s multilingual skills as well as her academic background in international relations reflect her aspirations to become a future ambassador of Thailand, according to her Miss World biography.
Meanwhile, her modeling career is intertwined with her pageant journeys, where she has consistently showcased elegance, resilience, and commitment to advocacy.
Personal health, advocacy
Throughout her career, Opal has been very vocal in her advocacy for women’s health and raising awareness about breast cancer.
This advocacy is deeply rooted in her own personal experience, having faced significant health challenges following the discovery of a 10-centimeter lump in her breast when she was 16.
While it had been removed successfully, the experience served as a turning point in her life.
After her recovery, she launched the initiative “Opal For Her,” through which she collaborates with health organizations like the National Cancer Institute and Foundation for Cancer Care at Siriraj Hospital to raise awareness about breast health, promote early detection of breast cancer, and provide support resources for women undergoing treatment, with the goal of empowering women to take charge of their well-being.
Opal’s early challenges with her health had shaped her advocacies for her pageant journey. Her struggles exemplified her resilience and authenticity, inspiring many and making her a role model for other beauty queens and young women worldwide.
A crown-worthy journey
Opal experienced her first major exposure to pageantry in 2021, when she competed in the Miss Rattanokosin pageant, one of Thailand’s most prestigious beauty competitions.
In 2022, she finished third runner-up in Miss Universe Thailand, and bagged the Miss Natural Beauty title as well.
But her breakthrough came in 2024 when she captured the Miss Universe Thailand crown.
Representing Bangkok, she won in a custom gown by Rian Fernandez, a Filipino designer.
In November of the same year, she competed at the 73rd Miss Universe competition held in Mexico. She further established her country’s reputation in global pageantry after finishing third runner-up and winning the Voice for Change – Silver Award.
Unfortunately, she didn’t get to finish her stint as the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) revoked her runner-up title, citing a breach of contract.
TPN Global, the Miss Universe Thailand organizer, noted that Opal failed to follow MUO protocol when she joined another pageant.
Still, Opal earned immense support from her fellow Thais, who continued to rally behind her in future pageants.
So although Opal failed to complete her Miss Universe duties, she went on to win Miss World Thailand 2025 title last April.
Her fans’ unwavering support soon paid off as Opal, again showcasing her grace, elegance, and smarts, made history by becoming the first Thai beauty queen to win the Miss World title.
