MANILA, Philippines — It's only been a few days, but the "Jesus Christ Superstar" tour cast in Manila already has their Filipino food favorites.
The reimagining by Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in London of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Rice's iconic rock opera about the latter Gospel chapters is currently running at the Theatre at Solaire this month.
The cast consists of actors from across four continents, including Filipina representative Gab Pangilinan who plays Mary Magdalene.
During a media call for the production ahead of the gala night yesterday, May 5, the international cast was asked the Filipino food they have tried and enjoyed so far.
Caiaphas actor Grant Hodges said he liked eating Pancit and was recommended to give Palabok a go.
Herod actor Erich Schleck, who briefly visited the Philippines for the first time two years ago, recounted being given a freshly prepared Chicken Adobo, calling it "more flavorful than anything one could possibly imagine."

The cast agreed that Annas actor Kodiak Thompson would be the most game to try new Filipino dishes, and currently his favorite is Turon.
Thompson acknowledged that Turon might be basic for Filipinos. He shared that they hired someone from GetYourGuide, who helped them commute via jeepney and tricycle, shop at a market, and cooked Turon, Chicken Adobo, Chopsuey, and Pancit on a porch.
"We always had the sweetest mangoes I've ever had in my entire life. You guys are so lucky, your mangoes here are from God," Thompson said, jokingly directing his thanks to his co-star Joshua Bess who plays Jesus. "Thank you Jesus for the mangoes!"
Pangilinan said the cast has not had enough time yet to go around together as they've only had one free day so far. Her co-stars expressed interest in doing a bar crawl in Pobalcion, with the Filipina actress recommending La Pita and OnlyPans — both of them recognized by the Michelin Guide.
"They've been loving the food in general. We haven't had time but we're planning, hopefully maka-Masungi (Georeserve) kami para [maka-experience] some nature," the actress added, with Taal Lake another tourist destination in their list to visit.
